Established in 1959, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) is the first science and technology research institute in Korea to achieve energy self-reliance through nuclear technology with TRIGA research reactor operation.
Ever since the HANARO research reactor was commissioned in 1995, several neutron beam-lines were constructed with thermal neutron source and newly installed Cold Neutron Facility at 2010.
It is now the time for a significant transition from the facility construction stage to the efficient utilization mode with the newly added Cold Neutron Beam-lines (17 neutron scattering instruments in total) to produce internationally recognizable scientific outcome, which, in turn, eventually contributes to the advancement of science and technology of Korea. The new Cold Neutron Facility should also serve as the Regional Hub Center for Neutron Research in Asia-Oceania.
